Funny boys ask funny questions

Most of us are familiar with the saying
"The early bird catches the worm"
Not only do we use in encouraging others to not waste time in their endeavours,
It is actually also very much a part of our Singapore culture.
Kiasu.

But one day, a funny boy said this to me:-
"The early bird catches the worm,
So what about the worm?
It was early, yet it died, PRECISELY because it was early."

"Haha! Stop being lame" was all that i could say
But thinking about it,
it does kinda make sense
in a weird, warped way.

In life, you're either the bird or the worm.
If you're the bird and you're early,
Well, good for you.
But what if you were destined to be the worm?
And you believed truly in the successful nature of the saying
Because after all,
You live in a country that is practically characterized and recognized by THAT saying.
How?

It's been a few days since the funny boy asked me this question.
I still don't have an answer for him
I don't think i ever will though.
That funny boy
is Li Kai Yuen.
